Nicaragua Surf Report for Tuesday, April 17, 2018

Brian Scott

Welcome back to the best surf report in Nicaragua. That’s right… it’s a big claim, but it’s true. We’ve been documenting the day to day waves down here the longest, and today was one of those epic days. So Thank You for always choosing NSR for your daily updates and let’s get on with the show! ~

Brian Scott

We had one of those magical days where the waves just TURNED ON!! Check it!

Brian Scott

Local legend and barrel maestro, Carlos de Colorados… doing what he does best. Finding Tubos!

Brian Scott

On his backhand, he’s always still a legend.

Brian Scott

Surf checks here are always by land. That is unless you can find a drive up spot (which is getting more and more limited) I think this applies to almost all surf spots now-a-days (we’re pretty lucky here). “Sand in the toes before you know” is my personal surf check requirement.

Brian Scott

What do you visualize going on here… air section? possible mini barrel to doggy door outro to air section. Oh the mind surfing possibilities are endless.

Brian Scott

Backwash, rinse cycle section’s never looked more dirty eh???

Brian Scott

Bet you wish you were this sponger right about now eh???

Brian Scott

Backlit, backside barrels are a bit dreamy on days like today.

Brian Scott

So are frontside super sick, deep green salt mines, like this one; Carlos cruising by on so effortlessly.

Brian Scott

Heavy beach-break days call for system checks from time to time. Leash rope good. CHECK!

Brian Scott

The light winds in the afternoon superseded the super high tide.

Brian Scott

אבל לפצצה יש גולשים, כמו החבר שלי ינאי פה עושה כמה תמרונים מעניינים של לירד המילטון שם היום. בוא נגיד שזה היה NUTS!

But the bomb sets had surfers, like my buddy Yanai here doing some interesting Laird Hamilton maneuvers out there today. Let’s just say this thing was NUTS!

Brian Scott

Riding a 4’ 6" soft top deserves a bit of respect too. But if you’re a team rider for “CatchSurf” (think of guys like Jamie O’Brien, Kalani RobB, Julian Wilson, Noa Deane), I think this is one of the requirements. Stoked you picked Nicaragua for your testing grounds amigo! I hope I see you out there mañana!

Brian Scott

If you ever want to see a prefect example of a TRUE team rider…. look no further than this kid, Kei Kobayashi. Check him out on this backdoor looking PC’s wave this later afternoon. He not only charges, but he’s super humble and has the respect of a guy my age, which speaks volumes for the younger generation these days. Killing it buddy!

Brian Scott

Idan, tearing one off the bottom.

Brian Scott

Kei is on the Nica program after spending countless time here in Nicaragua. Going all 13 o’clock like he’s on aguinaldo on this wave!!!!

Brian Scott

Ahhhh - so good to see my good friend Diego back for the season. Bienvenido Hermano!

Brian Scott

A couple coming through with some teeth! Grrrrrrrr!

Brian Scott

How do you navigate your hight tide wonk??

Brian Scott

Pin tail with a single fin or thruster, what’s you’re blade with cuchillos of choice? Little tip… they all work here… very well!!

Brian Scott

Although my new friend Idan will be heading home soon… I’ve so very glad to have met him….

Brian Scott

AND I’m really hoping tomorrow will be the day where I get him some of his best shots here in Nicaragua.

Brian Scott

What’s an afternoon session without happy hour? May I stress the happy part enough?

Brian Scott

Don’t look into the light…. it’s a trap! or is it???

Brian Scott

Last session light going gone… with a little extra froth.

Brian Scott

Yani says… “surfeamos mañana”… and “yes, this tabla is amazing!!!” Dale ~
