Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, March 05, 2017

Good Sunday to everyone tuning in today!  Eric here, bringing in the surf report from a beautiful, left-breaking wedge!  I pulled up right at first light and this is what was there to greet me!

Today’s report will have to be a surfer-less one, there wasn’t a soul in sight! The wind was blowing hard but this wave was well protected from the coastal mountains! I had to hold back the urge to jump right in so I could at least capture a few set waves for everyone to see!

The water temperature was colder than I could have imagined! Ice cold I might even say! If you are coming to visit us here in Nicaragua in the near future, be advised, you will want some rubber!

The tide was high but the water was shallow, making for a nice hollow wave! Offshore winds groomed the face perfectly and helped hold the little barrels wide open! Only thing I was missing was my wetsuit!

What a lovely setup, I figured that was enough empty reelers for everyone to drool over, so it was my time to paddle out and enjoy the ocean!

Heading back from the beach I stopped to take a shot of the vista! What a spot! The mountains drop into the sea, with a nice view of the wave down below!

After a surf and a long trek from the beach it was time for lunch, we headed over to San Juan del Sur, and to the Cerveceria! If you find yourself in SJDS make sure you stop by for some great food, local craft beers, and good vibes!

I got excited when I saw the beer menu, we washed down our tacos with a cold, strong, dark, chocolate stout! Yummmm! Jess take it easy or order your own would ya!

Our friend Chris owns Finca las Nubes, an organic farm in the area, and stopped by to pick up the used, fermented barley from the cerveceria. The goats are going to be stoked when he gets home with those grinds!

Need to get around the country on a budget? Travel like the locals do! These buses can get you all over Nica and will give you a good dose of some culture while you’re at it!

These guys were jamming on the sidewalk and could be heard from the next block over! Nothing like a good percussion band for some dancing in the streets!

Down at the beach there was a volleyball tournament taking place! It looked like some talented locals but I think some of our Iguana players could have challenged them! Grant? Ceasar? What are you guys doing next Sunday!?

The bay really is a beautiful spot! Go check it out for yourself if you haven’t been!

On our way home after lunch, we made a stop by the lakeshore to lay our eyes on the twins! Volcanoes Concepcioń and Maderas on the Island of Ometepe are quite a sight! Concepcioń (on the left) last erupted on March 9, 2010… I was ready with the camera in case she got excited!

Arriving back to Iguana and driving past our good friend Peter’s house, we thought we’d give Rancho del Mar a quick shout out! An incredibly laid out, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath house with a huge inner courtyard, just a quick walk to the world class waves at Playa Colorado!

Let us set you up with the NSR meal plan, that way when you surf all morning, come home and sit down in this beautiful room with a table full of local cuisine!

A quick surf check of the home break before I came to post this report revealed some fun looking barrels with nobody out! Looks like it might be time for session number two! Thanks for checking in with us today here at NSR my friends! Hope everybody had a good weekend! Check back tomorrow for another daily update straight from the beach!
