Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, February 22, 2018

Javier Baldovinos

Happy Thursday everyone! Here at Santana it was definitely a happy day because the waves were good and fun this morning.

First peak is starting to show some form but is not consistent yet, every so often a nice set comes showing the potential of this wave.

A couple of surfers were there at first peak warming up for when it start (hopefully soon!) showing the real potential of that magnificent wave.

Around 5 guys pushed the boat to the water and only one guy was left taking care of the boat while the others were getting all the fishing equipment, and suddenly a set came and almost caught this guy and his boat by surprise.

More towards the center of the beach the rights were the center of attention… they were longer and with more power.

Javier Baldovinos

And where the waves are good, that’s where the crowd is. Don’t get alarm, when I say crowd I mean around 8 people in the water.

While on the beach I found my neighbor Eric coming (empty handed) from Rosada beach where he frequently goes spearfishing. There was not that much visibility today.

Did I mentioned that the winds are slowing down in the last few days? In the next couple of weeks the wind will die and then bigger swells will start showing up and then everything will be great again!

Javier Baldovinos

Less wind means more opportunities to try and practice aerials, and the locals are not wasting time.

Javier Baldovinos

Don’t get me wrong though, there are still strong gusts of wind once in a while that complicates the take-offs.

Javier Baldovinos

It was a bad morning for Eric today, not only he didn’t caught any fish, but on the way back his motorcycle didn’t want to start… hence his long face on the photo.

Javier Baldovinos

But for someone that has being in Nicaragua for many years, a motorcycle that doesn’t want to start is not the end of the world, you just need to start running…

Javier Baldovinos

Jump on the motorcycle and release the clutch.

Javier Baldovinos

Off he goes, like nothing happen.

The next few days the waves will be around 2-3 feet but with less wind, it should be fun so, stay around!
