Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, January 22, 2009

Hi folks, we are the NSR family bringing you the action for the Thursday surf report.  Today we drove up to Playa Maderas in the morning because we wanted to take advantage of the tide conditions.  The waves were running about waist to chest high on sets with strong offshore winds and the water was chilly.  Check it out!!!

It is so nice to have a lovely girlfriend who loves what you do. Check out “La Pinguinita” (which means "Little Penguin") putting some sunscreen on La Gaviota’s body.  We aren't sure why people call her that, but it's cute.

This time of year we have strong offshore winds which make an upwelling in the ocean.  The upwelling brings in the cold water from the deep and actually drops our water temps down in the 60's.  It's a phenomenon that is unique to this part of Central America.  At times it feels cold, but most of the time it's 90 degrees outside and the cool water is a refreshing way to cool off.  Here we have a shot of this crew who spent the day out of the water - chickens!

Augusto “La Gaviota “Chamorro wasn’t worried about the weather conditions, he just wanted to ride a couple of fun waves. This is a really cool shot of him on one of the set waves.  He’s getting ready for the big birthday party we are going to have tonight at the coki’s house “El Bombillo Rojo” (the red bomber).

Some people take this cool water thing a little too far.  You definitely did not need a fullsuit out there today, but it is a nice look.  This is Sara “La Game Cube” Tesandearan getting ready to paddle out but first she had to sell out some smoothies by the seashore.

Guillermo “La Pulguita” Rosales was able to make it out this morning and made a couple of good maneuvers. YEAH, THAT'S A BIG FLOATER!!!

We want to leave you with a shot of this empty wave rolling in with not taker. The lineup was completely uncrowned so be sure to make out tomorrow because the waves should be about the same size than today.  After that, the swell is dropping for the next few days, so get your surf on now.  We are the NSR family, signing off for today.  Please check back tomorrow.
