Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, January 03, 2021

Brian Scott

Welcome to an officially new week of waves and happenings from your favorite and most constant surf report in Nicaragua for the new year of Two Thousand & Twenty One! Wow, think about it. We’ve hit our 20 year mark of giving you daily surf reports for two decades now!  That’s something I think we can all be super proud of! So with that being said…. let’s see what todays Sundays waves looked like!

Brian Scott

It was actually really super fun…. that is, once I finally made it down there today without the sporadic rain drizzles we had the whole day off and on since the morning. This was right about 4pm in the afternoon and I had just went to check it for the second time about an hour earlier but another short but inconvenient downpour detoured my earlier attempt from shooting. However, I think all good things happen for a reason, because this is how it looked about 20 min after it rained. The sun came out, it completely glassed off and the peaks all up and down the reef were super duper Fun! and rippable!

Brian Scott

The one and only gal I saw out there, which would make her number 10 out of only about 9 other guys out in the lineup.

Not big or even any real sneaker sets for PD’s today. Just fun peaky waves that were super consistent and had long enough rolling lines sweeping in to do anything from turns, to airs to frontside and cutback turns that would make any surfer good if you could do this daily, which very soon will be the case as I’ve been mentioning (A LOT) that the place is going to be the premier surf spot for the next few months.

Here’s some of those precisional places out there today, for those perfect ramp sections and airs I was talking about.

Brian Scott

Just about every single wave if you rode it properly (like this little ripper did) on pretty much every wave he caught, just meant you had yourself a good amount of paddling to do back out to the lineup. But of course when you’re a frothing teen, surfing an almost empty lineup with almost perfect waves to take one after another and another…. I’m sure he’ll be sleeping pretty good tonight!

Brian Scott

I like this time of year here and this wave can become incredibly fun.

Brian Scott

It’s also a time of year where the sand builds up around the main rock/reef true Panga Drops horseshoe right and left main peak. There are some interesting other little peaks on both sides of that peak as well. Which is exactly why this place is a haven for anyone surfing here durfing the “Off Season”.

Brian Scott

There were so many waves for everyone, that this here can’t even be looked at as offensive; as to where most surf breaks around the world, this would probably cause some serious burning or wave snaking issues once this wave had passed.

Brian Scott

Instead, everyone was just stoked to be surfing so many waves that were coming in wave after wave, that wave sharing was almost a given and happly to be shared by all. The stoke level was that high. Here’s the same wave from the previous shot and I don’t think the guy in the back would have made it to the inside section for this micro little barrel cover up. So it was a well ridden wave by both surfers and they obviously both had a great time sharing one wave that produced, as you can see quite a bit from one wave, all the way from the outside take off spot, to this inside little closeout barrel practically right onto the sand.

Brian Scott

How much potential do you see or like to mind surf on this one single empty perfect little glassy right????? I’m sure its got you thinking about a few things for sure!

Brian Scott

I could only shoot for around 45 min or so, since my foot is still on the mend and it was actually pretty sore today from walking up and down the beach, but I will tell you I got some really good solid gold shots within that pretty short amount of time I was shooting. So needless to say, I had a pretty tough job when it came down to choosing my last surfing & parting wave shot. So here ya go Dario. I think this was one of the best ones….. I hope you’re stoked on the final and sick turn of the day!!!!! Yewwwww amigo!

Brian Scott

Maybe some more rainy clouds were on the way, so it was time to say adios and get this 20th year Sunday Funday report edited, commented on and uploaded, so hopefully you’re reading it right now!  SBS is out, but I will see you again tomorrow ~
